Overview
Ministry for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry confirms that the government has concluded 7 vehicle safety standards for locally produced cars. New standards are approved to improve the quality of local cars and ensure the safety of passengers and drivers. Authorities have informed local car manufacturers that these standards are new and compulsory for all cars manufactured in Pakistan.

Vehicle Safety Standards
According to the statement by the Ministry for Science and Technology Federal government has approved the new standards to ensure that we have met international standards. The new standards included:
- Air-Bags
- High-Quality Brakes
- Windscreen
- High-Quality Head-Lights
- High-Quality Wipers
Ministry has show focus on high-quality head-lights to ensure clear visibility for night driving and high-quality wipers to make driving smooth and easy in rain. Air-bags are already available in some vehicles but not in all carmakers offer air-bags only in high prices cars. Now there is no compensation for the above-mentioned safety features by the authority. The prices of vehicles in Pakistan are very high as compared to the international market but the safety standards are very low. Now the updated standards are compulsory to provide in all cars.

Is Car Prices Increase After Adding New Standards
Fawad Chaudhry cleared that the price of vehicles will never increase after adding the new vehicle safety standards. Car prices in Pakistan already high, now automakers will adjust the new standards in current prices. He said, auto manufacturers already charge high amounts without providing high standards. New standards introduced to control road accident deaths and to control the import of vehicles. Import of vehicles in Pakistan higher than the sale of local cars because imported cars available at the same price but offer high safety standards and other features that are not available in local cars.

Motor Dealers Association Statement
Motor Dealers Association has appreciated the step of the Ministry that has been taken to improve the quality of the vehicle in the current prices. The step will increase the local cars and help the economy to grow up. It’s very important for us to take this step because auto companies provide the cheapest features and charge heavy amounts from customers. Local cars have zero safety standards and the prices are higher than the international market. The low safety standards in local cars are a major reason for the increasing imported car trend in Pakistan. The cheapest safety features of local cars now need to improve to balance the level of the auto market.

The initial step to upgrading the safety standards in vehicles promotes the local auto industry. The main concern of people is the high price of cars but the Ministry has confirmed that automakers will adjust the new features in the current price and it will ease the customers.
