It has named after Rudolf O’Hellen Hutt, then chief engineer of Mercedes. The 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe is a historically significant car that is both exhilarating and legendary.

The SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe, powered by a 300-horsepower eight-cylinder engine, was essentially a hard-top variant of Mercedes’ legendary open-top SLR racing vehicle. The hardtop Coupe variant of the 300SLR Uhlenhaut is based on the open-top 2-seater 300 SLR W196-S. In 1955, the W196-S was a race car that won every race it entered. Sport Light Racing has abbreviated as SLR. Meanwhile, the W196-S has derived from the W196-R, a Formula One vehicle that won 9 of 12 races in 1954 and 1955. Rudolf Uhlenhaut designed and engineered all three, the W196-R, W196-S/300SLR [Open Top], and the 300SLR Coupe.

The private owner has agreed that the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe will be available for public display on exceptional occasions. while the second original 300 SLR Coupe will remain in company ownership and be shown at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart. according to RM Sotheby’s, the proceeds from the auction will be used to establish a global Mercedes-Benz Fund to support environmental science and decarbonization research.
