Every year the car industry hosts the New York international auto show in which they present awards to the world car of the year. These awards have decided by a jury of 12 people from 33 different countries. The 2022 World Car Awards have finally been declared and Electric Vehicles (EVs) won these awards for the first time this year. In addition to the world car of the year, other categories of world car have also announced this year. These categories are including world urban car of the year, world luxury car of the year, world performance car of the year, world electric car of the year, and world design car of the year.

2022 World Car of The Year:

In this article, we will discuss the 2022 world car of the year and Category-wise other winners of the 2022 World Car Awards. World Car of the Year is open to all vehicles that are eligible for other World Car award categories. Moreover, the finalists have selected by a panel of 102 prominent automotive journalists from 33 countries based on professional reviews of each qualified vehicle. These votes were classified by an international accounting firm KPMG.

1. Hyundai Ioniq 5(2022 World Car of the Year):

Hyundai Ioniq 5 was the star of the show which won three awards out of a total of six categories. The Hyundai electric vehicle Ioniq 5 has won the top award 2022 world car of the Year by defeating 28 other vehicles from around the world. It is an all-electric SUV from a Korean carmaker. In addition, Hyundai Ioniq 5 conquered this category by beating Kia EV6 and Ford Mustang Mache. The Ioniq 5 took first place by seven points and became the 2022 World Car of the Year. It has officially recognized as the best electric car in the world manufactured by using the most advanced technology.

2. Toyota Yaris Cross (2022 World Urban Car):

Toyota Yaris Cross has earned the top place for the 2022 world urban car of the year which is the small Japanese crossover. It has chosen by a group of five cars from around the world. Furthermore, the Yaris Cross won this title scoring 708 points, nearly defeating the Opel Mokka that came second and the Volkswagen Taigun that finished third. The pleasant interior and extraordinarily high driving position of the Toyota Yaris Cross delighted the judges. The Yaris Cross offers a smooth ride that absorbs speed bumps without being considered to be a complex road undulation. Meanwhile, Toyota City Hybrid is fuel-efficient which makes a more pleasant driving experience.

 3. Mercedes Benz EQS (2022 World Luxury Car):

Mercedes Benz EQS has grabbed the title of the 2022 World Luxury Car of the year which is a premium all-electric sedan from the German carmaker. The car won this award for its luxurious and futuristic cabin, defeating the BMW iX and Genesis GV70. Finally, Mercedes-Benz has now won the World Luxury Car Championship five times, including the last two years. The new EQS SUV is the third model that has equipped in the class with high ratings that include its stylish and capacious cabin, graceful performance, and large cargo hold. Thus, Mercedes-Benz EQS has selected a preliminary lineup of eight cars from around the world. The EQS outscored the BMW iX and the Genesis GV70 with a final score of 789 points.

4. Audi E-Tron GT (2022 Word Performance Car):

The winner of the 2022 world performance car is the world’s most beautiful car Audi E-Tron GT. In the 18-year history of WCOTY, the firm has now won the fifth World Performance Car award. Audi E-Tron GT was picked out for this title from the primary list of 12 cars from around the world. E-Tron GT got 786 points leaving behind the BMW M3 / M4 who grabbed the second position and Toyota GR86 was at the third. Therefore, the jury recognized the Audi e-Tron GT’s immense capability and potential. Moreover,  this vehicle has powered by twin electric motors that can deliver 522 to 637. A 93.4 kWh lithium-ion battery with liquid cooling ensures a range of 238 miles and ultra-rapid charging. Additionally, Audi E-Tron GT won this award for its smooth handling and overall performance. It provides a comfortable and responsive ride.

5. Hyundai Ioniq 5 (2022 World Car Design):

Hyundai Ioniq 5 grabbed the Prestige 2022 world car design award of the year. Ioniq 5 was picked from the earliest list of five cars from around the world. A shortlist of three finalists was announced by the judges. Hence, Hyundai Ioniq 5 scored 234 points against Audi E-Tron GT who scored 214 and grabbed the second position and the last one was Kia EV6 who got 175 points. Thus, judges were impressed by the Ioniq 5for its sporty and stylish design.  

6. Hyundai Ioniq 5 (2022 World Electric Car):

Hyundai Ioniq 5 has also got the award of the 2022 world electric car of the year. It has become the conqueror of this category after beating the Mercedes Benz EQS and Audi E-Tron GT. It was selected from the first list of 11 vehicles from all over the world. Therefore, the jury has announced the list of three finalists for the 2022 World Electric Car. At last, the Ioniq 5 with the final score of 815 points, outpaced the Mercedes Benz EQS who got 786 points, and Audi E-Tron GT who is the last one and got 779 points.
