<\/p>\nBy means of the latest machine knowledge and artificial intelligence methods, Jaguar Land Rover\u2019s self-learning car will present a complete collection of services to the driver, courtesy of a new learning algorithm that is aware of who is in the car and learns their fondness and driving style. The software then puts this learning by using a range of variables counting your calendar, the time of day, traffic conditions and the weather to forecast driver activities and conquest many of the daily driving \u2018chores\u2019, allowing the driver to focus on the road ahead.<\/p>\n
Dr Wolfgang Epple, Director of Research and Technology for Jaguar Land Rover, said: \u201cThe aim of our self-learning technology is to minimise driver distraction, which will help reduce the risk of accidents. Presenting the driver with information just at the right time whilst driving will reduce both cognitive distraction and the need for the driver to look away from the road to scroll through phone lists, or adjust mirrors, temperature or seat functions while on the road.<\/p>\n

\u201cUp until now most self-learning car research has only focussed on traffic or navigation prediction. We want to take this a significant step further and our new learning algorithm means information learnt about you will deliver a completely personalised driving experience and enhance driving pleasure.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n The intelligent car will know the driver by the Smartphone or further device in their pocket and by the time the driver has unlocked the car door, the mirrors, steering wheel and seat configurations will all be set to the individual\u2019s preferences. The cabin will be predetermined to the preferred temperature \u2013 and be intelligent enough to transform it if it is snowing or raining.<\/p>\n With the help of <\/strong>the \u2018Smart Assistant\u2019, the car will also <\/strong>examine<\/strong> your <\/strong>agenda<\/strong> for the day and <\/strong>cleverly<\/strong> pre-set the navigation depending on traffic conditions to <\/strong>keep away from<\/strong> jamming<\/strong>. It will also <\/strong>forecast<\/strong> your next destination based on your schedule.<\/strong><\/p>\n The self-learning car will also be familiar with if you are going to the gym, and will have learnt that you prefer a certain temperature on the way there to warm-up, and a different temperature to cool down on your way home. If you always use the massage function at a particular time or location on a journey, the car will be able to predict this as well.<\/p>\n If you are taking the children to school, the car will be familiar with every passenger and presents each their own chosen infotainment choice \u2013 and the \u2018Smart Assistant\u2019 will assess your calendar and repeat it to you before you leave the house \u2013 by sending a note to your smartphone \u2013 to bring together your children\u2019s sport kit as it knows you are going to their sports day.<\/p>\n If you <\/strong>more often than not<\/strong> make a phone call at a <\/strong>definite time or on a specific<\/strong> journey, the car will <\/strong>forecast<\/strong> this and will <\/strong>present<\/strong> to make the call. If you are going to be late for your next appointment, the car will offer to email or call ahead with <\/strong>negligible<\/strong> or no interaction from the driver.<\/strong><\/p>\n The self-learning car will also be able to learn an individual\u2019s driving style in a variety of traffic conditions and on diverse types of road. When the driver activates Auto Adaptive Cruise Control (AACC) the car will be able to be valid to these learned distance configurations and acceleration profiles and pertain them to automated cruise control.<\/p>\n \u201cBy developing a learning function for Adaptive Cruise Control, it is technology concepts like the self-learning car that will ensure any future intelligent car remains fun and rewarding to drive as we move closer to more autonomous driving over the next 10 years,\u201d added Dr Epple. \u201cThis is important because in the future customers will still want an emotional connection and a thrilling drive \u2013 with the ability to drive autonomously when required.\u201d<\/p>\n The modified experience would also not be restricted to the car owned by the driver.
