{"id":6480,"date":"2017-09-22T18:54:09","date_gmt":"2017-09-22T18:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.autodeals.pk\/?p=6480"},"modified":"2017-09-22T18:54:09","modified_gmt":"2017-09-22T18:54:09","slug":"gkn-etwinsterx-is-this-how-your-future-car-will-drive-its-wheels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/autodeals.pk\/blog\/gkn-etwinsterx-is-this-how-your-future-car-will-drive-its-wheels\/","title":{"rendered":"GKN eTwinsterX: Is This How Your Future Car Will Drive Its Wheels?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Global engineering firm GKN has made a revalation about \u00a0what it considers to be a step forward electrified rear axle system.<\/p>\n<p>It adds in so-called Twinster torque vectoring technology, as used in the\u00a0Ford Focus RS, with a flawless shift two-speed transmission and an electric motor.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Why is it called eTwinsterX?<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>eTwinsterX is a grouping of off-the-shelf GKN technologies, that is to say: Twinster torque vectoring (which uses two clutches to distribute torque between the wheels) and an electric motor-driven axle joint with a two-speed gearbox.<\/p>\n<p>Multi-speed transmissions facilitate electric vehicles to distribute better launch performance using the lower gear, and more efficient high-speed driving with second gear, in this case up to a V-max of 155mph.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6483\" src=\"https:\/\/autodeals.pk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/gkn-etwinsterx-04-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The system\u2019s optimized shifting policy, which makes the e-motor operating close to its efficiency \u2018sweet spot\u2019, means that it can deliver greater maximum driving range as well.<\/p>\n<p>Single-speed transmission vehicles normally have a mechanically-limited top speed, or else the e-motor would be operating in an ineffective part of its rev band. With a two-speed system, the higher gear allows the e-motor to operate at lower \u2013 and more efficient \u2013 rpm at higher speeds.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Accurate torque delivery to individual wheels<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Torque vectoring deals with the allocation of torque to individual wheels, and can intelligently control vehicle dynamics. For instance, enabling over-speeding of the outside wheel in a corner can induce a yaw-moment, helping to steer the vehicle towards a tighter cornering radius.<\/p>\n<p>GKN Driveline&#8217;s Twinster torque vectoring solution is exceptional in that it takes over \u00a0a conventional differential with a twin-clutch system that precisely adjusts the torque delivery to each wheel.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6484\" src=\"https:\/\/autodeals.pk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/gkn-etwinsterx-02-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>eTwinsterX electric axle \u2013 no need for a diff, or even for a reverse gear<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The electric motor is used to start on the vehicle.
