The Prince Motor Company, \u00a0a short-lived Japanese manufacturer was producing cars from 1954 until its merger with Nissan in 1966. The company came into being as an airplane manufacturer in World War II: The Takichawa Aircraft Company.<\/p>\n
Prince founded the Skyline and Gloria lines as it Specialized in luxury cars.The Homy van and the Laurel sedan, ,The Two more lasting nameplates, were also Prince designs that\u00a0went into the Nissan fusion uncompleted and emerged out the other side as Nissan vehicles. Skimmed down through the years, the Nissan Gloria would turn up in North America as the original Infiniti M (eventually the Q70), and the Skyline as the Infiniti G (eventually Q50\/Q60).<\/p>\n

This R380 was\u00a0the first (and only) attempt by Prince to create a purpose-built race car. Improvement initiated after customized Prince Skyline models were overpowered by mid-engine Porsche 904s at the 1964 Japanese Grand Prix.<\/p>\n

Beneath the back hatch lies a 2.0-liter inline-six engine. The engine used here\u00a0was the same as\u00a0in Skyline production models, although reworked to fabricate a gigantic 200 horsepower for race duty. The\u00a0customized Skyline engine mated\u00a0to a British Hewland five-speed manual transmission. Hewland is still in business, creating transmissions for race sequence these days.<\/p>\n

The manufacturing of the R380 would be done between 1965 and 1968. Unluckily for Prince, the\u00a0first year of production\u00a0was only dissatisfaction \u2014 the Japanese Grand Prix was called off for\u00a01965. As an alternative of racing, Prince used the R380\u2019s downtime to test high-speed aerodynamics and break some speed records.<\/p>\n

The Japanese Grand Prix came back in 1966, and Prince was prepared with\u00a0four R380 examples. Those cars secured first and second place making their mark,besting even the newly designed trio of Porsche 906 models.<\/p>\n

Prince was taken over by Nissan that same year, and for 1967 revised the car into the R380-II. But these revisions were not sufficient to conquer advances made by Porsche that year, and Nissan placed second, third, fourth, and sixth place. Porsche won by a margin of two full minutes.<\/p>\n
Nissan sustained on to make quite a few racing successors through 1980, all tracked back to this novel Prince R380. Some\u00a0Prince formation and influence stayed in place at Nissan for several years, as well.
