In this era of electric cars development, Renault isn’t lagging behind either. The company is presently developing an electric version of its low-budget Kwid hatchback, said to be the entry level crossover.
Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn said in an interview:
“Once it (Kwid electric) works in China, there’s no reason you’re not going to export the car to India, to Brazil, to the Middle East.”

Ghosn asserts to have also driven a prototype of the ‘very well engineered and low-cost car’ demonstrating that the vehicle is in advanced stages of development previous to going into full-fledged manufacture sometime later next year or in 2019.

The Kwid electric will be debuted in China initially, in view of the fact that China has emerged not just as the principal electric vehicle market but also as the production focal point of electric vehicles for all global manufacturers.

The Kwid is one of the most victorious small cars by Renault. It has by now crossed 100,000 unit sales milestones in India and ranks 2nd following the best selling Maruti Alto.

The Kwid is the first car to be derived from Renault’s CMFA platform mutually developed by Renault and Nissan and is obtainable with 800cc (56hp) and 1000cc (67hp) engine choices mated to either a 5-speed manual or an AMT transmission. In India the Kwid has a price tag of INR 2.73 lac (PKR 4.38 lac) for the base 800cc version and rises as high as INR 4.64 lac (PKR 7.45 lac) for the fully loaded 1000cc variant.

The 800cc Kwid is a ray of hope for the Pakistani people to get a worthy small car in under 1.0 million price tag. Renault is partnering up with Al-Futtaim in Pakistan and has intended to launch its cars in Pakistan by 2019.
