Punjab Excise and taxation department has suspended the biometric verification for registration and transfer of all types of vehicles. According to the notification, the department has taken this step temporarily only for three months, and the reason behind this is the department is facing problems in shifting from the old manual registration system to biometric. Official Statement by Excise Department:

The Excise department official stated that The system has ceased to function due to difficulties with the registration and transfer process for older automobiles and bikes. After the introduction of the biometric system for the registration of old vehicles, people were facing difficulties in transferring old vehicles due to the non-computerized registration of old vehicles and motorcycles. Thus, Excise has temporarily stopped this process to address these problems.
Period of Suspension:

According to reports, the Excise department will shut down the system between September 11, 2022, and December 11, 2022. Additionally, this time period is to make it easier to register older automobiles. As per statistical data, 177,000 automobiles should registered throughout the next three months, bringing in RS. 15 billion for the department. The system will be reintroduced by the department in different stages, with completion anticipated for June 2023.
