The higher pricing of cars is one of the most serious problems facing the automobile industry, consumers, and the current government in Pakistan. Car prices have risen dramatically over the previous few years, Pakistan automotive manufacturer association has demanded to the government to increase the car price. they also said that country has a free market and that the market sets prices, not the government.
Pakistan Government Action:
The Pakistan government has finally taken an action to rise automobile costs and has asked automobile manufacturers to explain successive increases in prices of the car. The companies have been shocked by the sudden interest in car pricing. Which has pushed them into panic conditions. The Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) is not happy with the involvement of the government in this matter.
PAMA Said, Government Cannot Fix Car Price:
Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) Director-General Abdul Waheed to a query said that Pakistan has a free market and a market system. Pakistan does not organize its economy as a communist country. According to confirmed resources, PAMA said the price of raw materials and parts are vastly diverse & Government cannot fix car prices in Pakistan. Automakers have replied to the government inquiry into why have risen, but the government authorities have stated that they will seek professional advice on this matter.
PAAPAM Statement:
Abdul Razaq Gohar, Chairman of the Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories manufacturers stated that they are researching for car pricing Terms of Reference (TOR). He also stated that because cars have assembled locally in Pakistan, so the price should not be entirely based on the dollars rate. Still, we will look after the complete cost structure to check the effect of the exchange rate on automobiles. Let’s see, the government succeeds in its objective to keep the rising car prices under control.
