Pakistan’s first EV policy for Pakistan has approved by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) for specific vehicles. ECC has approved an electric vehicle policy for the commercial vehicle, two-wheeler, and three-wheeler.
The Ministry of Industries and Production (MoIP) has sent this proposal to ECC after discusses EVs policy with stakeholders and both parties are agreed. The stakeholders of EV policy included the Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC) Engineering Development Board (EDB) and the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Electric Vehicle policy discussion starts from the last and the Ministry of Climate Change has proposed EV policy and it was approved by cabinet but rejected by MoIP, EDB, and other stakeholders. Stakeholders and other entities of EV policy conduct a series of meetings to discuss a goof EV policy for Pakistan. The implementation of EV policy in Pakistan is very important because we are already far behind the global electric vehicle production. The production of EVs in the global market is very fast in production.

In April 2020 stakeholders and ministries have decided to start the first phase of Pakistan’s first EV policy in which two-wheeler (motorbikes) and three-wheeler (rickshaws) included.

The Ministry of Climate Change has demanded one percent duty on the import of EV parts. Moreover, the Ministry suggested that the low duties will discourage the production of local parts.
