Overview
The challenging economic situation has made difficulties to grow Pakistan electric cars policy. The ongoing situation had made vehicle production in trouble and electric cars are just a dream. Pakistan electric car dream is only possible with the support of the government. Due to a lack of recourses automakers are unable to make EVs production possible with limited sources.
While talking to the media, Engineering Development Board (EDB) Policy Manager, Engineer Asim Ayaz told that EV production is beneficial for Pakistan for various purposes. It could be less the dependency of the country on imported oil and make the environment good and friendly for health. He highlights that Pakistan spends a large amount on oil import and every time the rupee devaluation affect the prices.
EBD Talks About EVs Production In Pakistan
As per the details of Asim Ayaz, EBD offered 12 of 21 companies to manufacture and assemble electric vehicles in Pakistan. He added the current adoption of EVs in Pakistan. There is only a 2.2% ratio for the adoption of two-wheeler and three-wheelers and a 0% ratio for four-wheelers. This figure is very low and its shows the unawareness of electric vehicle’s benefits.
EDB Policy Manager shared that two companies MG and DICE Foundation are in the process of getting a license to assemble electric vehicles in Pakistan. He said “To enhance EVs purchase and development we should have to make important policy suggestions to offer the key benefits to accept EVs. The major factor behind the lack of EV adoption in Pakistan is the unavailable charging infrastructure. The participant companies do not arrange the required charging stations and don’t work successfully. The government should work on it and invest to install charging stations across the country”.
Dr. Junaid Aslam Memon Director of Central Business and Economic Research at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) speaks in favor of EVs production and said EVs are unfamiliar to Pakistanis. They have no idea of Evs benefits.
He said national EV policy is achievable because electric vehicle production is easy, has fewer parts, and required fewer personnel for the assembly line. EVs are cheaper to maintain.
Is EVs Cheaper to Produce and Maintain?
We are agreed with Memon’s statement regarding EVs benefits but the statement has some confusion. Pakistan EVs production sources are which made EVs production expensive. In the current situation designing EVs modules in Pakistan require a number of imported parts to complete production. Pakistan’s automobile industry is not fully developed. Petrol engine cars depend on imported parts and in front of this EV production is not possible with very less resources.
Conclusion
It is crucial to promote Pakistan’s EV Policy because the international market has almost near the goal of converting petrol engines into EVs. For this purpose, automakers require support from the government to open up ways for easy and cheap production. Government should provide relief in taxes and lift restrictions from import..
