According to a report, an electric Hyundai Sonata is in the works, but the company is focusing on developing a compact electric vehicle rather than a less popular mid-sized vehicle. Additionally, Hyundai is already developing a mid-size electric vehicle, the Ioniq 6, which has expected to debut this year.
Reason Behind Hyundai Sonata Discontinued:
The main reason behind the Hyundai Sonata’s cancellation is its cheap sales. The situation deteriorated to the point where Hyundai shut down the Asan Plant’s Sonata production line. Hyundai has decided to take a different approach to the next stage of development. The DN8 is the last project of this mid-cycle D-segment car. In 2023, the company will skip a mid-cycle facelift in favor of a completely new model DN9. The new version can be entirely electrical. It expected that Hyundai would release a makeover for the sedan before the end of the year, keeping it afloat for the following few years.
