As we all know that the prices of petroleum products have touched the highest limit in history. Every person has been suffered due to this sudden and huge price hike. Not only the personal vehicle owners but the public transport travelers are also affected by this. Because the transporters have increased their fares due to this Petrol Price hike.

Decision

But within a week of this price hike govt. may have a thought that the lower middle and middle class will be badly affected by this price hike. So, they have decided to give fuel to Motorcyclist, Rikshaws and public transport owners at subsidized rates. It is also decided that a specific class and selected population will be provided with special subsidies under the Ehsaas program in order to make them able to buy essential food items at discounted rates.

This decision regarding both relief measures was taken by Prime Minister in the meeting of the core committee held in Islamabad on Wednesday, October 20, 2021. In this matter, the Prime minister has directly ordered the related persons and ministries to give a proper proposal regarding giving subsidies on fuel to motorcyclists and public transport owners and this proposal will be presented in the cabinet meeting next week.

It is proposed that the subsidies under the Ehsaas program will be given from the budget of the federal government. The governments of Punjab and KPK have accepted this proposal whereas talks with Sindh and Balochistan are still ongoing to include them in the mentioned subsidy program.

Implementation

Governor Sindh and a member of the core committee said that this notification of giving subsidy to motorcyclists, rickshaws, and public transport owners will be implemented in less than a week, he was talking in a press conference, held after the meeting. He also said that the Ehsaas Program, Sehat card, and Kisaan Card will be extended to the other provinces of the country in order to give relief to the people who are affected by inflation.

Petrol Price Hike

It is to be noted that on16th of October 2021 govt. suddenly increased the prices of petroleum products and according to that, there was a rise of PKR 10.49 and PKR 12.44 in the prices of Petrol and High-Speed Diesel respectively.

Govt. Officials are still saying that this price hike is due to an increase in Crude oil prices all over the world and it will take at least 5 months to bring the prices of petroleum products back to the normal level.
