As winter has arrived, smog has started to increase, producing air pollution in different cities of Punjab including in the Rawalpindi district. Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (CTP) has launched a special operation against smog-emitting vehicles causing air pollution. Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (CTP) has issued a warning to drivers of smoke-emitting vehicles to control pollution, which will remain in force until further notice. According to a media source, the CTP department will file the report (FIRs) against drivers of vehicles that release a lot of smoke.
Smog Control Awareness Campaign:

According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi, the education department of CTP Rawalpindi has started a smog control awareness campaign. The awareness campaign will educate and raise awareness among car owners and drivers about the harmful consequences of smog on the environment, human health, and oncoming traffic. It will also help people understand how to solve the problem. The program will target and educate owners and operators of large commercial and transportation vehicles during the first week.
He further said that a under special campaign citizens have informed about traffic rules and road safety. He added that the education wing of the traffic police is making efforts to spread awareness among the public to make road travel safer. The CTO requested citizens to cooperate with the traffic wardens.
Legal Action Against Violators:

In this regard, the official of CTP said that CTP will hold an awareness walk and hand out pamphlets to road users in Rawalpindi during the second week. Following the campaign, the agency will file a formal lawsuit against the violators. In addition, The official further stated that regular legal action will taken after the awareness campaign and FIRs will also be registered along with fines for violating the law.
Furthermore, the spokesperson of Rawalpindi City Traffic Police department further stated that CTP would take all reasonable steps to preserve the environment. He continued by saying that vehicle smoke pollutes the air as well as the lives of many due to various respiratory diseases.
