We all know all about give and take. Life itself is a constant give and take among doing what you desire to do and what you require to do. The cars we drive are a negotiation between what we desire, what we require, and further notably, what we can manage to pay for.

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E400 Coupe you see here is everywhere right in the middle of the Venn diagram of automotive needs; so is it a good thing to compromise on a car?

The coupe is built on the same platform as the E-Class sedan and wagon. The interior is just introvert form of the S-Class in terms of comfort, fit and finish, and even materials. It is important noting that while the S-Class Coupe is nearly 8 inches longer, the interior proportions among the cars is nearly a wash. It’s maybe not entirely a wash if you consider the E-Class actually has four and a half more cubic feet of cargo space.

We may have to discuss the S-Class Coupe again later, but for now we’ll get back to the E. The coupe feels spacious and more lounge. Only highlighted by interior lighting with 64 color choices. Everything is even and the surfaces flow together. It’s as if the top of the dash is sitting on one organic shape.

The E Coupe is only available as an E400, meaning the only engine choice is a 329hp twin-turbo 3.0L V-6. We are not sure we will see an E43 version and E63 in the near future as well.

- The all-wheel-drive cars weigh in at a not-at-all-svelte 4,200 pounds according to Mercedes. The car doesn’t feel fast, but the performance is more than ample for what it is planned, which is passing on to you in comfort, with the happiness coming from touring through—instead of tearing up.
