Overview
Under the cheap petrol scheme government will charge an extra amount from car owners. Despite the rejection of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) against the petrol subsidy for motorcycles, rickshaws, and cars up to 800cc. The government is again coming up with managing the cheap petrol subsidy for poor people.
As per the report, the summary has been approved by Shehbaz Sharif and moved to Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) for approval. Meanwhile, a cheap petrol subsidy scheme will be an expensive petrol subsidy for cars above 800cc engine capacity.
The citizens who already striving to pay the highest petrol rate of Rs. 282/Liter. Now they will pay more to the government. The government will collect Rs. 75/liter and provide a Rs 50/liter subsidy consider under the cheap petrol.
What is a Cheap Petrol Subsidy
Last month the government has announced a cheap petrol scheme for motorbikes, rickshaws and cars up to 800cc. They announced Rs. 50/liter petrol subsidy in regard to providing relief to the poor people. However, the IMF ask the details and show negative concern regarding the policy. Despite these concerns, the government is moving on with the scheme and collecting data registered from provinces and matching with Nadra’s record.
Conclusion
This is a good decision to provide relief to poor citizens. But charging additional amount whereas the petrol prices are already huge for citizens. The government has announced the scheme which clears that they make petrol cheap for the poor and more expensive for rich people. The implementation of the scheme is not clear by the government right now. In the coming days, they will announce how the subsidy will provide to poor people.
