On Thursday, National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Communications recommended the National High Authority (NHA) should halt collecting toll charges on roads damaged by recent nationwide flooding.
National Highway Authority Officials Briefing:

During a meeting that presided over by Abdul Ghaffar Wattoo, the committee members voiced their opposition to the collection of toll taxes on the highways that had destroyed by terrible rains and floods. The committee has informed of the effects of the flood on the roads and highways. they also mentioned a network of 48 roadways totaling 14,480 kilometers in length, including 13 motorways, 32 highways, and three key routes.
National Highway Authority Officials (NHA) stated that Balochistan and Sindh constantly flooded. Apart from this, they also mentioned that 14 NHA highway roads network has affected by floods including a major part of the Indus Highway in Sindh.
NHA Decide to Stop Collecting Toll Taxes in Flood-Affected Areas:

Members of the committee questioned why the NHA imposed tolls on such roads Member National Assembly (MNA) instructed NHA to “no longer collect tolls” in order to “offer some convenience” to the public. The committee requested the NHA stop collecting toll taxes in areas where there had floods and road damage. NHA representatives told the committee that they would take the request for temporary toll-free travel in the flooded districts under consideration.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) over 5,000 kilometers of highways across the nation have been destroyed. Moreover, the government will repair the road system throughout all flood-affected areas, but it has not yet unveiled a concrete strategy in this regard.
