China is on its way of developing spectacular vehicles in terms of power and technology. With the typology of vehicles China is presently manufacturing, we are yet to be aware of the true potential of Chinese cars in Pakistan.In China there are more than 160 car manufacturers producing more than 950 different models in 2500+ trims combined, there is lots that can be discussed.
On the other hand considering the Chinese automakers presence in our market, we still don’t get the brand new models in most cases.
One of the examples is the Dongfeng S50 sedan. Measuring 4630x1790x1526mm with a wheelbase of 2700mm, the inspiring vehicle is based on the Nissan BluebirdSylphy, in view of the fact that Dongfeng is a joint venture partner of Nissan in China and therefore the platform used to develop the S50 is licensed.
The S50 comes with the three engines, a 1.5 liter MIVEC engine supplied from Mitsubishi and 1.6 & 2.0 liter units from Nissan’s stable. Available transmission choice are 5-speed manual or CVT.
In China the Dongfeng S50 has a price tag of 65,900 yuan (PKR 10.34 lac) going up to 102,900 yuan (PKR 16.15 lac) for the fully loaded version.
In Pakistan the Dongfeng trucks are being assembled by Ghandhara whereas Prince deals in the DFSK (Dongfeng-Sokon) vans and light trucks.DFSK being a subsidiary of Dongfeng Automobiles.
With an inspiring collection of vehicles out there one can only speculate why the likes of S50 are yet to reach Pakistan. And if in some way companies dealing in Dongfeng products can fetch the S50 here, being based on the Bluebird Sylphy it has all the potential to become triumphant in Pakistan only if its rightly priced and supported by true after sales support.
