Overview:

Importing a car from japan has an auction sheet grade, and you could have heard that the car dealers link the term “GRADE” with Japanese cars. Do u ever think about what the grade means?

Why do the buyers emphasize inquiring about the grades of these cars before finalizing the deal?

What is the basis on which Japanese imported cars are graded?

Which grade car you can buy?

Auction Sheet Grades: 

Let’s first clear the concepts of grades. The authorities send Japanese cars to auction houses because the auction on a specific bid commences before the export. The auction house graded a car on the provided standards by the Japanese Automotive Standards Organization (JSO).

How Auction sheet Grades car:

The auction house officers grade these cars primarily on the base of their mileage, and exterior and interior condition. The top right side of the auction sheet shows the auction grade. A non-fabricated grade of the vehicle helps you evaluate the status of the car. The concerned authorities give the following grades to the vehicle after inspection.

Grade S:

  • A car gets the grade S, which is less than 1 year old from the date of its first registration.
  • The Condition of the entire car is as good as new.
  • The interior and exterior of the car are scratchless and spotless.
  • There are so Signs of wear and repair.
  • The S-grade cars rarely come for the auction.

Grade 6:

The car falls in grade 6 when it exceeds a lifespan of 1 year and the mileage of the car is between 10,000km to 30,000km.

  • Mostly these are old model cars that have low mileage but are in pristine condition.
  • The car is in pristine condition in all aspects.
  • The engine and body of the car have never been replaced or repaired.

Grade 5:

  • The cars which rank in grade 5 have a mileage of less than 50,000km.
  • The interior or exterior of the vehicle may contain some minor dents which are hard to notice.
  • There are no signs of repair with the body and on the engine.

Grade 4.5:

  • In this grade, the vehicle comes with an original mileage of less than 100,000km. The car that has original mileage of less than 100,000km is marked as a 4.5-grade car.
  • However, the car may contain some minor dents and scratches with a negligible amount of body repair work.
  • These grade cars are one of the most desirable grade cars after grades 5 and 6.

Grade 4:

  • The vehicle under this grade is less than 150,000km in mileage.
  • The dashboard, seats, and door panels of the car may contain some scratches and stains.
  • The body of the vehicle may have some little scratches and dents.
  • Although! Overall vehicle condition is good if it ranks in this grade.

Grade 3.5:

  • The cars which rank in this grade may contain a good amount of scratches, dents, and repair marks.
  • The interior of the car contains many stains, imperfections, and color fades.
  • The engine of the vehicle may not be in perfect condition.
  • The exterior and interior of the vehicle may require repair and replacement.

Grade 2:

  • The vehicle may have a secondary component installed aftermarket like a turbo or manual transmission being converted into an automatic transmission.
  • The grade 2 cars have undergone some non-accidental damage or major transmission.
  • It may not have a genuine engine.
  • The vehicle may have signs of rust and corrosion.

Grade RA:

  • The car which ranks in this grade may undergo average accidental damage. And the car has been repaired.
  • The grade RA has nothing to do with the mileage and age of the car.
  • They may be less than 4 months old and assigned an RA grade due to accidental damage.

Grade R:

  • One or even major parts of the car require immediate replacement.
  • There are possibilities that the engine may not be in working condition due to accidental damage.
  • The Grade car vehicles have met major damage.

A brief explanation of the vehicle’s condition in the auction sheet includes:

Scratches:

  • The A1 Sign in the auction sheet means there are small scratches on the body.
  • A2 means the car has visible scratches.
  • A3 means the car has big scratches on the body.
  • A4 the vehicle has deep scratches on the body.

Dimples:

  • The E1 Sign on the auction sheet simply means the car’s body has some dimples.
  • The E2 Sign means the vehicle has several dimples.
  • While the E3 means there are a lot of dimples on its body.

Dents:

  • Sign U1 simply means there are small dents in the vehicle.
  • U2 means there are visible dents on the vehicle.
  • U3 means there are big dents on the vehicle.

Repair marks:

  • The Sign of W1 means the repair of the car is hardly detectable.
  • W2 means the car has some repair mark or wave.
  • W3 simply means the car needs to be repainted or even repaired.

Paint Job:

  • P Sign means paint marked.
  • On the other side, the H Sign means the paint of the vehicle is faded.

Replaced or needs to be replaced:

  • XX Sign means the part of the car is replaced.
  • While the X Sign means the part of the car needs to be replaced.

Scratches:

  • The B1 Sign in the auction report means there is a small dent with a scratch.
  • B2 Sign means the car has a dent with a scratch-like flat of the hand.
  • The B3 Sign on the auction report means a big dent with a scratch which has the size of an elbow.

Cracks:

  • The Y1 Sign on the auction report means a small hole or crack.
  • Y2 Sign means a noticeable hole or crack.
  • Y3 Sign on the auction report means a big hole or crack.
