The biometric verification method will be reactivated for motorbike registration, new vehicle registration, and the transfer of existing cars by the Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control (ET&NC) Department.
DG Excise Circular on Biometric
In an official circular, Director General Excise announced that starting on Monday, January 23, 2023. All vehicle registration and transfers would only be handle by the biometric system, and manual registration transfers will discontinue.
Punjab Biometric Relaxing Due to Auto Dealers’ Request
Due to complaints from auto dealers who objected to the biometric system’s sudden deployment, the department temporarily stopped the biometric system for two months.
The merchants claimed to have thousands of new imported cars on display. They ask for at least two months for the transfer of sale, and ET&NC agreed.
This system will be in place permanently starting on January 23. The following recipients will additionally receive a special discount from the department:
- Instances of hardship.
- People who move overseas.
- Women with chronic illnesses or handicaps.
Only an affidavit certifying the aforementioned situations will accept by the department in order to receive these reductions.
Biometric Relaxing Period Limit
Five days remain in the 2-month relaxation period, the department has stated through a newspaper ad. “This deal is just for the automobile seller’s the customer must do biometric,” stated the advertisement.
Conclusion
The method, according to the government, would facilitate a smooth automobile transfer between the seller and buyer. Additionally, automobile transfers now need fingerprints from the buyer and seller. As required by law, overseas Pakistanis, a dead person’s family, organizations, and other institutions must submit the nominated person’s biometrics.
