German Automobile company, Sono Motors is developing the Sono Sion electric solar vehicle. According to the company, a solar-powered electric vehicle will hit European markets in the middle of 2023. Sono Motors unveiled its flagship Sion in New York City as part of a multi-city tour around the United States. The company has designed the vehicle with special feature solar cells embedded in plastic body panels on both the roof and sides that partially power the vehicle through sunlight.

Solar-Powered Electric Vehicle Sion Outlook:

When it comes to the Solar-Powered Electric Vehicle, at first glance, the Scion looks like an ordinary black car with a minimal design. The five-door hatchback has avoided any flashy branding, trimmings, or color options. Upon closer inspection, you will notice, the exterior of the car, which is most decent, indeed covered in dark blue solar panels. The entire car including the bonnet, fenders, top, and side doors has covered in a total of 456 solar half-cells.

Sion’s Distinctive Cabin:

In terms of interior, the Sion has a simple and decent room with a minimalistic design that offers you a special fresh feel with spacious space. It has a basic black steering wheel, all-black polyester comfortable seats, and a simple digital display standard. The dashboard is too simple with a 10-inch touchscreen that controls the infotainment system. The system has also connected to the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integrations, Bluetooth hands-free calling, climate control, and apps that display information about solar power, energy consumption, and charging/discharging controls.

Seating and Cargo Capacity of Solar-Powered Electric Vehicle:

The all-new upcoming five-door hatchback will come with a seven to eight adults seating capacity with ample head and legroom. Solar-Powered EV can also offer enough cargo space to carry heavy luggage. In addition, you can also increase the space by folding down the back seat of the car to carry the heavy load.

Specification and Performance:

Solar-Powered Electric Vehicle features 465 integrated solar half-cells throughout the exterior of the car including the roof, doors, fenders, hood, and all. The company claims that solar power can power the vehicle with about 70 miles of driving per week in normal weather. While on perfectly sunny days, the solar panels can provide up to 150 miles of driving range. The Sion has also equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery that can offer a continuous range of 190 miles on a single charge.

Solar-Powered Electric Vehicle Price and Deliveries:

The company claims it will the world’s first affordable solar-powered electric vehicle priced at $25,000. This Sono Sion is more affordable than most EVs in the US market. According to the company, the production of the five-seater hatchback is expected to begin in the second half of next year.

Although the first deliveries to clients in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland are anticipated to occur before the end of the year. Furthermore, Sono says there are already 42,000 bookings for the car in Europe, and it aims to produce 257,000 Solar-Powered Electric Vehicle Sion by 2030.
