As we all know that Punjab has been witnessing a severe crisis from the last two years regarding the new computerized number plates and smart registration cards for vehicles. But there is good news that this issue is resolved.
According to media resources, Lahore high court (LHC) had issued notice against Punjab Government high officials and others. The petition questions the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department about the delay in the provision of registration cards and vehicle computerized number plates.
Punjab Excise and Taxation Department secretary stated that before the court, 0.53 million registration cards and 1.7 million number plates were pending.
He further stated that negotiations have been taking place for the provision of computerized number plates with a company of a Federal ministry. The company aims to provide lower-priced number plates. In response to a query, he stated that previous contracts were canceled due to the increase in the Dollar exchange rate.
NRTC requested the Excise and Taxation Department for the contract. Punjab cabinet decided to deliver the contract to NRTC based on “Government to Government”.
Excise Minister Hafiz Mumtaz informed the media that the issue has been resolved via this new agreement.
The involvement of Contract:
National Radio Tele Communication Corporation (NRTC) has opened a financial bid for new plates which was further submitted to the Excise and Taxation Department. This proposal claims that the price of new number plates will remain the same as the previous ones. “Number plates for motorcycle and rickshaw will charge the only Rs710 and the number plates for the car, bus and truck will charge Rs1027.
An outline is going to be sent to the provincial cabinet for the “Government-to-Government” deal between the federal government and Punjab. Civil work has been completed by NRTC for the institution of the plate manufacturing unit at Kot Lakhpat in Lahore. 13 machines have already been brought by the authority.
However, 22 additional units will reach the location next month. The corporation has provided an annual schedule for the production of the latest plates and to finish the backlog of 2million plates.
Preparations have been completed according to officials. The financial bid is open whereas prices have not risen. The agreement draft between NRTC and Excise and Taxation Department will be delivered to Punjab cabinet in the next few days. Production will go ahead right after the consent
