Mercedes took the chance at CES to bring in its new Mercedes-Benz User Experience (also called as the MBUX) multimedia system. The system is founded on Artificial Intelligence that shows augmented reality navigation on the lately designed touchscreen. Other features that will be creating their way to Mercedes’ A-class cars as a division of the MBUX are voice recognition and control, and 3-word address navigation.
Daimler AG proclaimed their greater than before participation with the London-based tech startup what3words and attainment of 10% stake in the company. What3words is a navigational solution developer which has invented an intelligent way of addressing the world via a more precise grid than GPS. The London-based startup alienated the whole world into 57 trillion squares and each square is of 3 feet. All it takes for the software to recognize a precise location in the world is a grouping of 3 unique words.
Unique 3-word combinations are allocated to each of the 57 trillion squares. The user can use a GUI/UX, a command line interface, or just by a voice command system to navigate with this system. The word combinations could be anything like “down.salad.hunter”.
Mercedes’ MBUX will present an assortment of other features all along the 3-word navigation system. The touchscreen which will be the bridge among the software and user is like an iPad positioning horizontally with about 30% of its sides reduced. The system will present the users to outlook text menus in 3D and will demonstrate a visual depiction of the car with choices to temper with the visual representation, and view the same change in the real car. Voice recognition system can now be turned on by a button on the steering wheel, or just by uttering the key phrase “Hey Mercedes”.
